    Fabulous Frannie EO

I bought a set of EO on Amazon from this Fabulous Frannie brand and I am not at all happy with it. I used it in my soap, but the scent does not carry into the soap at all no matter how much I put in. I compared the lavender from the set with a better, more expensive brand of lavender and there...

LARD- store bought vs home made

I simply melt it in my crock pot on low with a couple tablespoons of water in the bottom of the pot. I usually use my home made lard for baking but i wanted to try it for soap since that batch was not the nicest fat of my pigs. After this, i will contunue to keep my good homemade lard for...

LARD- store bought vs home made

That was my guess. more water, less actual fat, which means that the recipe now has too much lye. but why is the resulting soap so dry, like there was barely water in the recipe. it's odd I use it to get stains out. it works really great for my bf's t-shirt pit stains and other tough stuff.

LARD- store bought vs home made

2 concerns here... I made soap with store-bought lard and it turned out great. I made the same recipe with lard I rendered myself from our pigs. It turned out hard, dry, and brittle, and very drying. Has anyone had this problem? Is there difference I'm not realising between home made and...

    Interesting Old-Timey Recipes!!

Some of the best cookbooks I have are the really old ones. The ones that call walnuts "walnuts meats", instructions on how to prepare poultry includes cutting off the head and feet, and endless pages of jellied salads. These books were written in a better (maybe) times, when one income could...

    Best first soap-making book?

Thank you I will look for the books that were mentioned. I would rather have a book (or 10!) on a subject I want to learn. My bf is a big fan of watching endless youtube videos and websites but not me. I learned how to make beer mainly from books and that is MUCH more complicated than making...

    Red red palm oil.....EWWWWW!

Thanks. I dumped a bunch of chai tea in it. I just started trying soap making and I find myself looking in my cupboards for additives. Just like when I make homebrew. I don't own any essential oils, so I am raiding my spice cabinet and garden.

    Red red palm oil.....EWWWWW!

This is what the red palm oil did to my soap.( don't judge it too harshly, it's my 2nd soap EVER) The color is nice, i guess, but it smells weird. it's not pleasant. you can't smell the tea at all through the smell of the oil.

    Red red palm oil.....EWWWWW!

My bf bought me 3 huge containers of RED palm oil on sale at Costco. (thanks a lot costcon) It sucks for cooking and baking because it tastes gross and not even copious amounts of pumpkin pie spice will cover up the gross taste. To soap making it goes. BUT it is SO RED! And it smells like POO...
