Ratio of essential oil(s) to carrier oil(s)

We typically suggest 0.5% for shampoo bases and other cosmetic bases. However, if you want to mix with carrier oils, you should probably stick to about 2%, which is a typical massage blend. Any more should be done by a certified aromatherapist.

cost of EOs vs FOs vs how much to use

I don't know about others but if I buy a product that has EOs in it, it's likely because I want something with as few synthetics as possible. For myself, if I see there are 'fragrances' in a product, I put it back on the shelf. I would much prefer to use something with EOs and pay the price...

    Plastic-alluminium tubes for handcream

it's the bane of all who want packaging: you have to buy a truck-load as a minimum order. That's why a lot of companies only carry limited containers because they too have to buy the truck load...

    lip balm with spf

You can use carrier oils or butters that have a natural SPF in them to start with. I wouldn't put any titanium or zinc myself since we tend to 'eat' lip balms and such. Not to mention they'd probably have the "life guard" look to them...

Pregnant and making products....what should I not be using?

We don't allow pregnant women to attend our workshops - there are too many risks, even by just smelling the oils - if you really want to use Essential Oils, PLEASE consult a certified health professional. You don't want to go by what forum users say when it comes to a baby - ask the ones who...

    Liquid base for EO burners?

I stay away from DPG and other such chemicals - we use EOs because they're natural and have wonderful therapeutic properties so using DPG seems to be a little bit of a contradiction. (I know I will be put down / contradicted by others who have different beliefs and ideas but there you have it...

    Vanilla Content

I think the only way to really know is to test for yourself - unless you know someone who is using EXACTLY the same materials you do, you won't know for sure. Vanillin is definitely a culprit but there may be others too.

    Favorite M&P additives?

I like to add clay to mine - about 1tbsp per pound, same rule as with carrier oils.

    MP base from scratch

I know some folks have figure out a way to do it but it's really tricky from what I understand and the time spent may be hard to recoup unless the prices of your soaps are high....

    How do make Citronella candles?

Bug Repelling Candles When mosquitoes season is upon us, it’s a good idea have some insect repellent candles handy! Choose Essential Oils that have insect repellent properties to add to your wax – it’s as simple as that! While these candles can be made in buckets or on torches, here’s an easy...

    Melting Beeswax

it's always good to have tools dedicated for each job i.e. don't use your wax tools for cooking or making other products as there's always a chance of cross-contamination. It costs more but will save you some headaches in the long run.

    package and ship sweaty soap??

You may also want to replace the clingwrap with cellophane. Clingwrap lets odor seep out over time so it probably lets some moisture in as well.

    Excited!

We have customers who actually manage to make M&P look like CP...pretty impressive! I guess when you know what you're doing, you can do anything! Have fun with your soaps!

    My maiden voyage

I agree - you should start with the liquid castille and add your EO / fragrance.
