Welcome Sting! You are learning from the best!

    Newton’s Third Law

Your old lard from 2022 probably did not cause the problems you had. If anything, your bars may develop DOS months down the road if the lard was going rancid. It would be an interesting experiment to make another batch with the 2022 lard now that you fixed the recipe. I bet it will turn out...

    Stearic acid soaping temperature

I use stearic acid in shaving soaps, and only do it hot process. My recipe works best temperature is around 55 - 65 C before I mix in the lye.

    Newton’s Third Law

I got a chuckle out of your description as Philippino fishball soup! Another thing that could affect how quickly your batter comes to trace is how hot your lye water and oils / butters were when you started. The hotter they are, the faster it traces. I am learning that when you use honey you...

    Is this mold?

Cool stuff! I make shave soap but in a cylindrical mold and cut into pucks so the water can evaporate out.

    Transporting soap

I like these small plastic totes. Got them from Lowes. They hold quite a bit but are not very heavy when full. They are pretty durable - my first set lasted 7 years.

    EOcalc - Favourite Blends

Spicy Lime. I use it in a hot process soap so the citrus sticks well.

    Lye by Essential Depot

I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work. Otherwise I love my wool dryer balls! Haven’t bought fabric softener in many years!

    What Is Your Favorite Lye?

I bought from him last summer and they are nice sturdy bottles.

    What Is Your Favorite Lye?

A couple more - The Lye Guy is good and sometimes runs sales, and Red Devil from local hardware stores. I also like the price of Bulk Apothecary, but their lye bottles have static and the microbeads tend to go everywhere. A couple more - The Lye Guy is good and sometimes runs sales, and Red...

Is this shea butter still good?

I use shea in most of my soap recipes. I have never had a problem except during the Covid shutdown when I had to buy from another supplier (Not Bulk Apothecary) and the shea was VERY grainy. I used it because it was all I could get. I never had a complaint from a customer, but had a few bars...

What's for Dinner tonight ? What are you having ?

I love my cast iron skillets too! Some I bought, some are my mom’s and great uncle’s, all look as good as new. Question for you - what is fermented coconut sauce? Now that my picky eater has moved out of the house I can experiment more in the kitchen.

    Anchor or Pyrex?

I replaced all my Pyrex measuring cups with Anchor last summer. All the markings etched off the Pyrex cups in the dishwasher and I refuse to wash them by hand. So far the Anchor cups have held up very well in the dishwasher. The markings are as crisp and clear as when they were new. Liquids...

What is your favorite mint EO blend?

I use 1 part peppermint to 2 parts anise. The peppermint is so strong if I use too much it overpowers the anise. Btw ... I hate anise by itself. I made a loaf once for a holiday show. Couldn't stand the soap curing in my house! Made a box to cure it in the garage and then my garage and car...
