Brilliant ideas. I am definitely going to do this - we have a lake very close to us, which is mountaintop, and as pure as can be (since there is no run-off into it and we are far from any air pollution). (Obviously I will boil and filter, but the lake is a worthy contributor anyway.)

I made a marshmallow body cream a few days ago, which separated out overnight. (I'm pretty sure I simply didn't add enough emulsifying wax - BTMS.) The following day I reheated it and added more emulsifying wax (emulsifying wax SF - I have a hunch that BTMS might not like being added at this...

It was in the recipe - this one. It is also in every recipe in my (otherwise excellent) first soap book. That was before I'd read around the subject very much. I haven't used it in soap since I discovered that it's at best only minimally a preservative, a preservative isn't necessary anyway...

It is very interesting looking at it now, because it was a straightforward recipe and I didn't do any checking (I hadn't learned to use soapcalc myself then). The amounts are all in weights rather than percentages so I didn't have an immediate perception of the overall balance of it. I can see...

I'm in luck! I have a folder with lots of printed out recipes for soap and lotions etc, and I knew it was one of those that I had used. Fortunately I had halved the quantities, so there was writing all over the recipe - no question at all about the one I used! I won't be putting witch hazel...

Well! I tried my scrambled egg and aniseed soap this morning. It's wonderful! I don't much like the scent, and it's extremely ugly, but it lathered beautifully and felt lovely, and where the soap has dissolved in use the bar is very nice and smooth. Before you ask, no pictures... just...
