What other hobbies and homemade goodies do you make?

    Recommended Suppliers for the UK

Oh - I've used Mystic Moments on Amazon, but I have Prime and not all their stock is available on Prime, so I have been limited. Thanks for that! (Edited to add that now I've explored it I do recognise their website, but I had been put off by the fact that all the items are listed at £0.00 - I...

    Have a wonderful day. :)

    Using lake water?

Brilliant ideas. I am definitely going to do this - we have a lake very close to us, which is mountaintop, and as pure as can be (since there is no run-off into it and we are far from any air pollution). (Obviously I will boil and filter, but the lake is a worthy contributor anyway.)

    Too much tapioca!

I made a marshmallow body cream a few days ago, which separated out overnight. (I'm pretty sure I simply didn't add enough emulsifying wax - BTMS.) The following day I reheated it and added more emulsifying wax (emulsifying wax SF - I have a hunch that BTMS might not like being added at this...

    AcornSky's Troubleshooting First Batch

It was in the recipe - this one. It is also in every recipe in my (otherwise excellent) first soap book. That was before I'd read around the subject very much. I haven't used it in soap since I discovered that it's at best only minimally a preservative, a preservative isn't necessary anyway...

    Recommended Suppliers for the UK

As promised on another thread, I am starting this thread so that those of us in the UK can share our favourite suppliers and hopefully make some great discoveries. My favourite online shops for all things soapy are Gracefruit, The Soap Kitchen and Plush Folly. Oh, and Naturally Thinking for...

I have these oils available - what percentages should I use?

I'm going to go and start a thread for recommended suppliers in the UK, so that we can find it when we need it, and maybe even stop coveting Brambleberry... (Edited to add that I did, and the thread is here.)

    AcornSky's Troubleshooting First Batch

It is very interesting looking at it now, because it was a straightforward recipe and I didn't do any checking (I hadn't learned to use soapcalc myself then). The amounts are all in weights rather than percentages so I didn't have an immediate perception of the overall balance of it. I can see...

I have these oils available - what percentages should I use?

Thanks for that nframe - I know of Fresh Skin, but have had trouble displaying their website. I'll have a good look in a different browser. Free postage is too good to pass by - I always seem to have one or two small things I need, and paying £6 postage makes it unviable, so I end up getting...

    AcornSky's Troubleshooting First Batch

I'm in luck! I have a folder with lots of printed out recipes for soap and lotions etc, and I knew it was one of those that I had used. Fortunately I had halved the quantities, so there was writing all over the recipe - no question at all about the one I used! I won't be putting witch hazel...

I have these oils available - what percentages should I use?

Hi You can get shea butter and palm oil - and all sorts of lovely things - from any number of places on the internet. I'm fairly new to this too (and in the UK), but my favourite online shops for all things soapy are Gracefruit, The Soap Kitchen and Plush Folly. Oh, and Naturally Thinking for...

Want to stop using palm oil, how to finish what I have left?

Thank you for that seven - I had the same question about Trex, which is also covered in that thread.

    AcornSky's Troubleshooting First Batch

Well! I tried my scrambled egg and aniseed soap this morning. It's wonderful! I don't much like the scent, and it's extremely ugly, but it lathered beautifully and felt lovely, and where the soap has dissolved in use the bar is very nice and smooth. Before you ask, no pictures... just...
