Jerry! no problem, I didn't think you were being rude at all!
I was just being my offhanded self ... doesn't come off so well in type sometimes.
your comment actually gave me the push I needed to start this experiment. so thanks!
yeah, that's why I'm going to try infusing it in patchouli, cause I heard that patchouli anchors other scents too.
also I think I'll super fat to 5% and add it after trace to somewhat eliminate the lye...
well wehn making vanilla infused oil it takes up to 2 months in the winter so.... I guess that's how long I'll try it for.... obviously this is a LONG term plan.
I'm going to make a patchouli vanilla soap.
I heard patchouli sticks well and I'm going to soak my vanilla beans in the patchouli oil for a couple months before I use it.
When do I add this oil? And how much do I add?
so I did rebatch and i think it went well... here's what I did.
I grated it on the finest side of the grater (you'd be surprised at the fact that this is faster than using the larger side) and the stuff basically turned to powder with a few chunks.
I did add a bit of water to enable me to...
The soap seems to work well though.
I used just over 1/2 c. in my top loader and everything is coming out nice and clean so... woot.
I decided to just use vinegar in the softener dispenser ... that seems to be taking care of the scum.
my first batch set up lovely.
I was thinking of adding an EO to it at this point, any suggestions?
I'm trying my first load of laundry with this right now...
I have very hard water and there's soap bits (scum) floating around on the top of the load. :(
is there any type of fat that...
I appreciate everyone's advice... so much!
I'll let you know what I do.
If I do end up rebatching (i know I know, I could be throwing good ingr. after bad) I'll probably just end up using the final product for laundry soap anyway.... just to be safe... but whatever I do I'll post a final...
well just in case anyone's interested.
It did totally harden overnight...
I turned it out of the mold just to see if there were lye pockets or anything and it's hard and solid all the way through.
except one tiny spot on the edge.
and the top edges are really soft... weird...
Anyone?
Here's the amounts i used
625 gm Evoo (22 oz)
750 mL water (3 cups)
210 gm Lye (7.4 oz)
I was dumb and followed a recipe that did not involve weights so these weights are after the fact.
I ran it through the lye calculator for the amount of Evoo I should have only had...
K, I weighed 3 c. evoo.... 625 gms
I weighed 3/4 c. lye crystals 210 gms!!!!! almost 3 times MORE than the lye calculator told me was recommended.
also the water was recommended to be between 156 - 234 mL which is also less than 1/3 of the recipe.
so... now what.
how do I rebatch...
