Dreaded Orange Spots. Its what happens when oil in the soap turns rancid. It develops orange spots that can smell really bad.
For other acroynyms, check out this thread. They aren't all there, but a lot are.
It's pretty unpredictable. It can appear in a few weeks or up to a year or later.

Yep, this is why its so important to test new recipes before selling. If they don't get DOS at a year old, I consider that recipe safe to sell.
Dos can be caused by contact with metals as well as oils that may be close to their shelf life.
Rancid oils usually cause DOS.
Curing on a bare metal rack is begging for DOS to happen.
Copper likes to cause DOS too.
A high SF ( superfat) will encourage the formation of DOS.
Unsaponified oils will "go bad" in the soap and literally rot in the soap.
Confused yet?

To add to the confusion, my unscented bars developed some clear cut DOS but had no bad smell at all!

Reading the "about" in the Etsy shop, it looks like she's been making soap for 5 years now. Maybe she's one of those rare people who have never experienced it. Or maybe she has, but never heard the name for it.
I've made probably 100 batches of HPCP and never experienced DOS. I have had soap go rancid before, but it never developed DOS. Is it limited to CP for some bizarre reason?
What does HPCP stand for? I am not sure as I have not seen it before so I am confused by the term. I know HP is Hot Process and CP is Cold Process, but together it would be contradictory. So what do you mean by HPCP?

Rancid soap has probably progressed through the stages of DOS but you might not have seen it.
