I live in north central florida and Soap Aloe Aloe maculate (Aloe saponaria) is very common around here and grows like a weed all year. Soap Aloe contains saponins which actually lather gently in water. It has a gel in the leaves just like aloe vera but has a much tougher skin and thicker spines (Even for small plants) it also flowers twice a year.

I'm curious if other people have used it in their soap? I'd like to know since I have a bunch of it in my front yard and maybe I could use it in a couple of batches.

I don't know if this is in the wrong place, if so please move it! :)

You'll probably have to try it. If it had "special" qualities and someone here had discovered that I'm pretty sure we would have heard about it.
