I recently started using the software and by no means am a expert. But when I plug tried and true recipes in the software, it gives me slightly lower values for liquids and lye. Is this common or should I use an outside lye calculator?

I'd stick to what you know works. Computers and programs are great and all but when it comes to your recipe that you have made and know works - I'd never change it because a program tells me to. (This is of course assuming that you have already tried and tested the formula)

Really it's your recipe if it works why on earth would you want to change it?

SAP values are averages, so different calculators will use slightly different numbers. You can adjust the SAP values in SM3 for each oil if you like, but I use it and it works just fine with the values it has already in it.
