I simply poked the top of the red cap with my finger and the cap disintegrated!
 
I did a similar thing to a stainless steel tray - I used the tray to make cucumber pickles, then left the pickle mix in the tray with the lid on, while I collected enough jars to do a boil. I didn't think it was urgent. The stainless pitted and failed (pinholes in the base for the vinegar to drain through).

Your pictures are incredible - that was just from the fumes in the jar? Wow.
