I made my first lotion this weekend and definitely want to make more. This will create a surplus for myself. I do not want to sell, but am I allowed to give to friends and family under EU law?

I know I can gift soap and bath products, but am not sure about body products.

Does anybody know?

Hi Tjika,

Congratulations on your first lotion. :)
Apart from legislation, I would wait handing out products.

It seems good practice to wait and see how your lotion developes over time:
- will it still be stable after a few weeks
- is there any discolouration
- is it still "prestine"; no mold or other nasties (which shouldn't be the case if you used every precaution and used the right (amount) of preservative.
- any scent changes?

Once you're sure your product is still perfect after 3-6 months (preservative, rancidity oils etc.), and you're able to reproduce it (same recipe), I would consider to let other people try it.
Family and close friends usually are your first guinea pigs

Nothing wrong with that, as long as you supply them with the necessary information i.e. accurate labelling and you don't let them pay for it.
