Greetings fellow addicts! A quick observation and a question...

I make this recipe often and enjoy its qualities:

50 Lard
30 CO (I was worried about the high % but so far it is not too drying)
10 OO
10 Castor
8% lye discount

The other day I had a batch that went through partial gel (boo!). I have noticed at is it drying on the rack that the portion that did not gel is very dry and ROCK hard already, but the portion that gelled is a little bit stickier and much softer. Have you experienced the same? It has been a while since I let a batch using this recipe gel, so I don't really recall if those batches were also softer/stickier.

That's odd. The batches that I gel have been initially harder than the non-gel batches. Eventually, they even out though. I don't know why your soap is different.
