Crochet/Knit prosthetics

For any of you good people that knit or crochet you might be interested in reading about these Knit Knockers for Breast Cancer patients. My market is at a Kaiser and they have a group working on these for the hospital. I am starting some tonight. https://www.knittedknockers.org/

I've seen those! My LYS has discussed having a day where we work on those. I really hope it happens! I am not advanced enough to do those yet - right now I make a lot of washcloths.

I would not be able to make a set of these but this is something I could get on board with. If I wasn't having the difficulties I am now, I'd totally volunteer.

I could see this becoming a thread in the crafts and other things. Especially if there was a "how to not tangle yourself while making knockers" tutorial.

I'd offer to stuff my trivets, but I have the feeling they'd be hideously lumpy. :cry:

For anyone that crochets there is a pretty good video. They really are not hard to make. I am making them using Paton's Grace cotton yarn.

What I find interesting is that there is a pattern with a nipple and one without. Does a knitted boob need a nipple?

According to the video the crochet version created to large a nipple so only the knitted versions has one

Different strokes for different folks?

I've seen lots of patterns, some with and without the nipple. The best additions that I've seen are a prayer stone or something for weight and washable covers for the prosthetic.
