Hi,

I've heard about adding sugar to the lye water when making HP soap to make the soap more fluid. Will the addition of sugar affect the color of the soap? Will the sugar caramelize during the cooking process to make a brown bar? Thanks for the help!

I have only ever added 1 tsp ppo to the lye water. I find it's difficult to get it to all melt in if I add more. It doesn't turn caramel. I never found it to make the soap more fluid, but it does contribute to bigger bubbles in the lather. I don't use it anymore, it was just fun to play with it in the beginning years of my soapmaking experiences. Now I simplify; the less ingredients the better.
