I am fairly new to soap making and would like to know the various ways to create a texture to the top and sides of soap when in a large mold. I have seen soaps on other websites that look like they were actually broken vs. cut.

How I do it is after it has went into heavy trace in the mold, I use a wide, flat spatula and touch-n-tip it. This leaves little peaks in the top. I do that many, many times to the top. another method I've tried a few times is to use a wax paper on top and lightly tap it onto the top, then pull up on the 4 corners and it will leave a interesting textured top. There are ways to use chop sticks, combs, you name it!

ETA: I forgot to welcome you here to our little family soap forum :D Glad you found us! 8)
