Complete newbie here. I am a serious deer hunter, and in an effort to utilize as much of the deer as possible, I stumbled upon soap making. I am exited to make my first deer tallow batch this fall, and to learn all about making soap!

Welcome deersoaper! While you wait to snag your first deer of the season, you could practice soap making with other oils. Feel free to ask questions!

Welcome, deersoaper! Bless you for being so mindful of using every part of the deer that you can. I do the same thing with the cattle and chickens that we raise. I can't wait to see your first soap! Please post lots of pictures for us as you embark on this journey. May the soap gremlins be ever so absent in your endeavor. :)

Terrific! I'm excited for you!!! Here's a link to a nice basic recipe for soap made with deer tallow:

Of course, you'll have to learn how to render deer fat into tallow -- which you can find on line -- not difficult; just takes time. And you'll need to get familiar with using a soap calculator. I use SoapCalc. Here's a link:

Go to the Beginners Forum and look for the Sticky that explains how to use Soap Calc.

Don't be afraid to ask "dumb" questions here... we all learn from the questions newbie's come up with.
