I was reading CF book about transparent soap. I see they use denatured alcohol as a solvent for part of the process. Can I use the denatured alcohol from Lowes or Home Depot? I see it has methanol in it and have seen people say methanol is toxic and can be absorbed through the skin. The denatured alcohol I have found on some soap supply websites contain methanol. I am confused on what to use. I could just go buy a bottle of everclear alcohol but that is expensive. Any tips would help.

I did see some people recommend propylene glycol instead of denatured alcohol. Dont know why to use one or the other though.

I find that the soap made with propylene glycol melts easier than that made with alcohol. You can buy propylene glycol at your local livestock supply store. Propylene glycol is a routine treatment for ketosis in cows.
