Hi,

I am new to soap making, a couple of months ago I did a soapmaking course, I needed to check out how scary caustic soda is before giving it a go on my own.

Yes it did look scary but worth braving, I really enjoyed making the soap and loved mixing the EOs, herbs and clays.

Finding a lot of helpful info on here, thank you!

Hello and welcome!

It's not dangerous if you treat it with respect. Wear gloves, don't have kids or pets in your soaping area and mix it in the sink, don't use glass or wood and don't breath in the fumes. I hold a folded washcloth over my nose/mouth or just turn my head away and stir well and gently until dissolved. You'll be fine. Add the lye to the water not the other way around.

Relax and enjoy the process.

Welcome! I was a shaking mess when I made my first batch. I'm always amazed about how relaxed I am about it these days, now that I have a couple dozen batches under my belt.
