Exploding Pyrex

This hasn't personally happened to me, but thought the article below was interesting. It may explain why some soap makers have experienced Pyrex glass shattering with temperature changes.

FWIW - its not just Pyrex. My favorite Pampered Chef Batter Bowl shattered into a bajillion little cubes of glass just sitting on the counter. It had never been used for soap, only lotion and balm.

I had a pyrex measuring bowl explode one time too when I was melting ingredients for either lip balms or lotion bars, I forget. Boy was that scarey.

I do not and will not ever use glass to mix lye.

Thank you for posting that article. Oh my -- must redo my thinking on this. Just bought a plastic pitcher the other day to use for lye water.

Last Thanksgiving our pyrex dish/ pan exploded. We were not sure what happened...looks like others had the same experience. Thank God, nobody was hurt in our fam.
