Has anyone used raspberry seed oil in their facial moisturizer or lip balms as a natural sunscreen? Would love to find a recipe for a moisturizer using raspberry seed oil.

You could just use your favorite lotion recipe and substitute red raspberry for one of the oils. Do you know the percentage required for the efficacy of raspberry's SPF?

A little off topic - I don't know if you're selling but if you are, you can't advertise SPF because then the lotion would fall under the drug category. The FDA frowns on products which claim to be 'drugs' without testing and proof. I apologize if you're already aware of this regulation.

I don't know how much raspberry oil to use and hoped someone else had a recipe for the moisturizer and also for lip balms. Would love to have a moisturizer recipe anyway with or without raspberry seed oil. I do know that I can't claim an SPF on my products but thank you anyway. It's always nice to be looking out for each other and I do appreciate the advice!

Check out http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/2010/01/making-basic-lotion.html she has some wonderful recipes and advice on making lotions and most anything else you can imagine. If you come up with a recipe, folks here would be more than happy to give you feedback but aren't likely to share their recipes as many her have spent a whole lot of time mastering their recipes.

This is just my opinion but I wouldn't use a large percentage of raspberry since it's a bit expensive. If I was making something with it, I'd only use a percentage which fell between 1% to 5%. It would depend on what other oils I was going to include. What other oils do you have for a lotion? Do you prefer a lighter lotion or something creamier?

Also, Susan B-N discussed raspberry oil and SPF. http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.ca/2014/03/rapsberry-oil.html

Here are some links to more on her blog which you might find helpful.

Thanks for the links! I'm a cold process soapmaker, solid lotion and lip balm maker so I have several oils already--olive coconut, palm, sweet almond, castor, avocado, Shea butter and cocoa butter. Thanks again!

I've used Raspberry oil in my lotion bars and I've found you shouldn't use very much, definitely less than 10%. I used way too much raspberry oil my first time around...the stuff has a distinct and unpleasant odor (to me at least), so less is definitely more. Right now I'm using a bit over 5% so maybe you could start off there or work your way up to that?

I could have bought some at a local herb store but it smelled rancid to me and I decided to order some for myself. Maybe that's just the way it smells?

I checked mine and it does smell like a combination of herbaceous and rancid oil. Huh...I never noticed before. The bottle I have is new - bought it a few weeks ago and it's been stored in the frig.

Can you tell me a good place to buy raspberry seed oil? I've been looking online and most of my sources don't carry it or they are
out of stock. I only want a small bottle.

I bought it from New Directions Aromatics. http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/

I just went to look at it and it's slightly higher than what I paid for it back in January. They even have a 35% price drop notice on it. However, it's still a much better price than other sites I've seen it on. It does say it's out of stock and I don't know of another reasonably priced supplier. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.

Wow, $22 for 16.6 oz, that is a great price for that oil! I just wish they didn't have a $100 minimum order policy now. :(
