Poland opened their doors for the Jews that no one else wanted. Washing up is a big part of traditional Jewish beliefs. Even if they just used plain water it would have been more than 90% of everyone else at the time

I had no idea plague was still endemic in parts of the world until yesterday, when it was on the news here. I think they have a watch list here (it has to be reported), but it can be cured by a short treatment of antibiotics (things I didn't know I needed to know).

No, but they (the Jewish community) as a whole, were more hygienic in the dark ages than other countries/peoples in Eastern Europe.
