I have not been able to wear any makeup for the better part of 20 years due to allergies. Now that I have a lip balm recipe I absolutely adore, I am thinking about getting brave and color some.

Are there any tips y'all can give me to avoid wasting products? Any colorants that work better than others, any to avoid at all costs? I am thinking to start with Crafter's Choice Matte Americana Red Oxide Pigment Powder. The only ingredient is iron oxides, so I should not be allergic to anything in it.

I am looking for a good, true red in the end, so if anyone has suggestions on how to get there, I am all ears. :)
