I want to try making bath bombs but I don't want to order a bunch of supplies until I decide whether or not this is something I want to do long term. Can someone tell me if I can use this citric acid -vs- buying it from WSP or BB?

Yes, that is fine to use for small batches
Sure can. It's much more expensive then purchasing from a supplier. But good for starters.

I made some bath truffles (similar to bombs but use more oil) and gave them to my mom and her best friend. Both ladies have raved about them. 
Here is the formula I used:
45% baking soda
23% citric acid
25% cocoa butter
5% BTMS - 50
2% fragrance oil
If you don't have BTMS-50 or Ewax (also used to make lotion) just add 5% more butter. The wax helps bind the butter to the water so it does not leave any in the tub.
I got the idea from a comment on Spicy Pinecone's YouTube tutorial for her bath truffles.
I used a Wilton silicon mold that makes a little dome shape... kinda like half an egg...
