I found myself wondering what carrot tissue oil is and learned it's an infusion of edible carrot roots in a carrier oil. The aim is to get an oil high in beta carotene, the chemical that makes carrots orange. http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/2009/12/carrot-tissue-oil.html

I also wondered if a person could make their own carrot tissue oil. Some varieties of carrots have a lot more beta carotene in them than others. I don't see these varieties sold in my local grocery (but then I live in the boonies), so growing this type of carrot and making an infused oil from them would be a good project for an avid home gardener.

Looks like making the infusion is not difficult, although the process needs time and patience:

That sounds like a wonderful soap, did you use the fruit pulp or juice? I have a bunch of home grown carrots from last year that have been stored all winter, they are starting to grown fine roots and I need something to do with them. I think making my own oil would be great.

The recipe I use was posted in another forum I am a member of and I have been using it for a couple of years now. IrishLass may have used this recipe also. I have never had a problem with it using this method but I do not use it in my balms just in case there is some water left in it, I use dried for the infusion in coconut oil if I want to make a carrot balm. Have made ls with it and it turns out a gorgeous color
1 cup grated carrots
2 cups high oleic sunflower oil

I simmer it in a stainless-steel frying pan at the lowest temp that will keep it just bubbling to cook off the water from the carrots. After the bubbling stops after 3 hrs or so and you have a pan of crispy tiny little carrots let it cool and strain. Per instructions from Cee (Zany) of Colorado

No I did not use pulp or juice since I was not actually making a carrot soap. When I make carrot soap I use juice and pureed baby carrots with the carrot oil

I think Zany said much the same thing in the comments section of the blog post on The Sage. Thanks for sharing, Carolyn!
