Hi everyone, I am looking to make a few batchs of CP soap in January - and am making my christmas list of fragrances/colors.

I found this list: http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/soapm ... colors.htm

of natural colorants, but the ingredients tend to be pricey on amazon.com ($10-25 per 16oz), and typically come in 16oz lots.

I am also looking to get some fragrances, but do not want to spend too much. I have only used babycakes by sara, but the prices were high and the soap didn't smell as strongly as I would like (2-4oz fragrance for a 4-6lb batch of soap.)

Does anyone have some recommendations for where I can get fairly priced but hight quality supplies online?

In return I promise to make more instructional videos on my YouTube account =D

Thanks!

Here is a good source for natural soap colorants:

They are a good company with good service.

I tried looking up babycakes by sara to see if her scents were rated soap/skin-safe, but all I got was a site that sells gifts for baby showers? I couldn't find any fragrance oils on her site. Am I looking in the wrong place?

When scenting soap, you'll need to make sure the fragrances are skin safe and safe to use in soap (many aren't).

There are many B&B sites that cater to handmade soapmakers and who sell soap/skin-safe fragrances. Here are some of the ones I use:

Just a quick add on, you may need to use as much as 1oz ppo (per pound of oils) of fragrance to get a nice strong scent in soap. You may not have used enough. Fragrance in small amounts, which is usually where you start to find the ones worth buying in large bottles is $2.50 - $5.00 per oz. Soapmaking is an expensive hobby unfortunately!

perhaps your expectations are a little high - you will need about 0.7-1 ounce of fragrance oil per pound of soaping oils in your batch.

I was just doubling whatever it had said on the bottle / web site. The oils are supposed to be very concentrated - I don't remember my exact ratio - but I know that is was double what the site/bottle recommended for CP.

Is HP soap fragrance much better?

Soap fragrances are the same for CP and HP. I am trying to think who has some more affordable ones for you to get started. I just ordered 5 2oz bottles for $25 from Day Star. That works out to $2.50 per oz. You need to plan on using .50oz minimum up to 1oz ppo. Some scents are stronger than others, but it is hard to tell unless you use them. I think Day Star is the cheapest you are going to find for small sizes to try. I was happy with the fragrances and shipping time. They offer complex scents. You will receive some religious material with your order.

Nature's Garden sells 1-ounce fragrance oils for around $2.50 each. If you buy a certain number (which I can't remember at the moment) you get a .50 discount per bottle.

Also, their recommended usage rate is 5%.

I ended up going with bramble berry (because I have learned from her YouTube videos and didn't realize she had a website).

Now I also want to get a nice mold, any suggestions for a site that has very nice but affordable molds?

I am talking about 3lb+ batch molds.

BB has really nice molds. My first one was a SunnyBrook Farms, the original, it was 10 years ago. I love wood molds, there are some on Etsy that are pretty affordable. $30? A lot of people like silicone and can tell you where to get those!
