Having the hardest time with ash

So I use loaf molds and flat acrylic molds but am having the hardest time with ash with my flat molds. And of course this mold is how I do my pretty swirls. I refrigerate after pouring and everything looks fine. I quit covering because they were getting condensation. The ash seems to develop...

    What in the heck!?!?

So this is my miserable attempt at a wine soap... I have no idea what happened but it is not pretty. I soaped at 90 F and added the wine (that go had boiled/reduced down) at trace. Thoughts?

    Cp soap for laundry

I want to make a soap specifically for laundry (and possibly other household uses). Would you do 100% coconut with no super fat? Or still add in a few other oils. I looked at the numbers on soap calc for a 50% coconut, 30% olive, and 20% crisp and the cleansing was above the recommended range. I...

    bath bomb ingredients

So I am a complete newbie at bath bombs and just getting started... I have a question about ingredients and why or why not to use them. Polysorbate? Why use it? I am trying to stick to all natural things.... Kaolin clay? I know it makes the bomb hard but when I made a practice bomb (citric...

    technique help

Need help with different techniques... First, I would like to make a soap with chunks and spirals of different colored soaps. Do I have to do anything to the chunks or can I just throw them in? What I'd the best way to make spirals? Shave the bars? Use melt and pour? Also, what is the best...

    surface bubbles

This soap is a beer soap mixed at 90F and wrapped in blankets with a warm heating pad (problems with partial gel). These bubbles appeared after and are hard and not zappy. This also happens with my cpop soaps. I am assuming it is temp related. Is there anyway to avoid this? Especially for my...

    Can I gel beer soap?

I have noticed my acyrilic slab mold does better (less sticking) when I gel but I always put beer soap in the fridge to keep it cooler and prevent gel. Can I gel beer soap or will it get too hot?

    coating silicone mold?

I just used my new CC silicone loaf mold and it worked ok, but the soap slightly stuck to the sides and we had a hard time getting it out. Does anyone use a unsaponifiable lubricant such as mineral oil or cyclomethicone to coat the mold? What is the best way to get soap out of the mold?

    acyrlic slab mold sticking

I have the acyrlic slab mold from soap making resource and originally LOVED it. Now after doing many batches, every batch sticks horribly. I have tried putting it in the freezer for 10mins before unmolding, as well as the oven for 10mins at 170F with no luck. I have tried unmolding earlier as...

    witch hazel in CPOP soap

Would this be feasible? A friend of mine requested a batch with tea tree oil in it to make diaper wipe cleaner. She also mentioned witch hazel would be nice. I was thinking I could do a half water lye solution, then add the witch hazel at trace. Thoughts?

    bebe collections soap mold

I am looking at buying a couple new loaf molds (preferably without having to line them). I really want to try their silicone loaf mold but am wary since the price is so awesome. Anyone have experience with these molds? My main concern is bowing of the mold after pouring and are these molds...

What makes a recipe slow moving? I would love to try some swirling techniques but my recipes all move too quickly. Any slow moving recipe using crisco or lard since they are cheap?

    weeping soap

My most recent batch is weeping around the swirls. It seems to be oil (slippery to touch). Any insight?

    another milk question

I have successfully made milk soap in the past, but the last few times have been iffy. I attempted to make coconut milk soap last night but it did some weird things. I added the lye very slowly (over hrs) to the milk. It began to get chunkyand thick and had the ammonia smell I have heard...

What is the most interesting soap you have made or come across? I just made my first batch of breast milk soap and it got me thinking about all the different things you could do :-) My BM soap. My last name happens to be that of a major soap company, but I think this counts as the real...
