I use,16% canola (and 16% soybean oil.) I have No DOS. My theory is that the preservatives in the meat shortening I use at43% are the reason. Yes, I've had bars that were 5-7 years old.

For tube molds, I like to use Crystal Light (they're oval) and off-brand(Wyler's is round) Crystal Light containers. Spray with Pam. The next day put in the freezer for a bit and unmold and slice.

I prefer tallow over lard because it's far cheaper (I use the meat-based shortening which is about 96% tallow). Also, I think it sounds better on the label than lard.

Check all your local grocery stores, too. I buy mine at a store called Brookshire's. Do you have those in Mississippi? And it's cheap. $2.49 a lb. Not as cheap as buying it in 50# bags, but pretty good.

I haven't had any luck disguising brown discoloration with colorants. I would pick a different FO.

Hey Stinkydancer, Are you sure Soaper's Choice and Crafter's Choice bases are the same? I just tried some of WSP's Crafter's Choice Extra Clear MP and it was not as lathery as Soaper's Choice.

How about using a Malibu tube that sits on the cap? That would keep the lotion at the opening.

I like WSPs detergent free base. It's the cheapest I've found, too.

I buy it at my local grocery store for $2.70, and later may buy it from a local chemical supplier for about $62 for 50#. Essential Depot isn't any cheaper than the grocery store for me.

Wow, 25 years! I've only been doing it for 14 (and that's off and on). I have the WSP Lime Margarita and use it in MP. Right now, I have several citrus scents, so I'm trying to resist the urge to buy more! But good to know WSP has the strongest.

Timber, I've used Red 33 and Blue 1 many, many times. It should have at least given you pink and purple at first. Later the vanilla would probably turn it all brown. However, I can't imagine why it would all turn green and beige at the beginning. That is just weird. Did you use enough...
