    Sweet Anise Cider Soap

Thanks everyone for compliments and name suggestions. With this soap I am thinking about the goddess Hecate... also considered a witch. She is sometimes called Queen of the Night and she has a black dog. I like Queen of the Night for a name, but am still thinking. Suggestions welcome.

    Sweet Anise Cider Soap

Hi All, I haven't posted any soap pictures for awhile, but am still busy experimenting and have a couple things to share. The soap has activated charcoal and Tussah silk. Oils are oo, palm, co, avacado, castor and apricot kernel. EOs are orange, basil, bergomot, black pepper and...

    my other "hobby"

I love your dog food bag. I have one made out of a chicken feed bag-same material. Very strong. I am going to look around at FArm and Fleet and see other possibilities there are. I went through quite a phase of making purses out of jeans---remember those? I lined them with vintage...

    What's your Pinterest handle?

Aren't they pretty? Lucky for me I have a horse crazy 11 year old. We inherited all of these horses (and many more) from various grown up horse crazy girls. I never got any when I was a kid, so they are exciting for me, too. This is off topic, but hard to resist!

I am curious about the fragrance. Is it a sweet smell? Do you smell coffee in it? It is very pretty.

Did I miss you saying what kind of swirl that is? Is it a zebra swirl? I bet you are happy with it. Very nice.

    Sweet Anise Cider Soap

I can't tell right now. I wanted the anise to be a note, but not to dominate. So I am glad it is settling. The cedarwood is an warm note underneath right now and the anise is brighter. Does that make sense? I can smell the rosewood underneath. But I have to shut my eyes to catch it. I...

    Sweet Anise Cider Soap

It seems to be taking a seat (as opposed to standing up in front of everyone at the movie theatre). So I am relieved. Thank you!

where has Alchemy and Ashes gone to?

Thank you Jcandle! That is interesting and helpful. I will read more about babassu. Don't worry, I use the lye calculator for everything soap related...it is also a fun time wasting toy when I am just thinking about soap options. Thank you Hazel-- I have read the article and like it...

    Sweet Anise Cider Soap

Here is a picture of yesterday's cider soap. I posted the recipe (for advice--thank you all!) Friday night. The EO combo is orange 5X, rosewood, cedarwood, black pepper and anise. I boiled hard apple cider and let it go flat. I substituted 1/2 of the h2o for the cider. Next time I think...

where has Alchemy and Ashes gone to?

Thank you Hazel. I made the second one and cut it this a.m. It gelled fully and I like it. Still waiting to see how the EOs will settle; smells different each time I check. I used orange x5, cedarwood, rosewood, black pepper and anise. I smell the anise first... but am hoping that will...

    Goat's milk question

Hi, Sounds like you did a good job. Are you going to gel it, or keep it cool and try to prevent gel? I am currently embracing gelling... It seems to want to do it, so instead of working hard to stop it, I am going along for the ride. Maybe later I will try to stop it again. I did keep it...

    Goat's milk question

When I do it I make them close in temps. Like within 10 degress. Which is easy since the slow melting process lets the oils cool, too. Seems to be almost the same without having to fuss at all. I have seen different ways of interpreting the cool temp soaping process, but I like to keep it...

    Goat's milk question

Also, the slower I went, the better it melted. The lye will melt it if you go slow and don't overwhelm it. the first time I did it, I was worried about getting to a higher temp. then I learned about soaping at low temps. I love it. The temp may not go to high, but it should melt.

    Goat's milk question

I have done this three times, so am not an expert. But it has worked well each time. I am very careful. Here is what I would suggest, that has worked successfully for me. I break up the frozen goats milk so it is sort of a slushy mix in the bottom of the bowl. Add the lye very, very...

where has Alchemy and Ashes gone to?

Hi again Hazel, Here I am tweaking my recipe and acting needy. Sorry! I think this looks better and will probably go with it in the a.m. Many thanks.
