    To Rebatch, Or Not Rebatch...?

...that is the question. XD So I was making my first ever batch of Castile soap, and I figured I'd use goat milk as my liquid. So I add my lye to my frozen milk. One spoonful, stir, another spoonful, stir...methinks, well this is getting lame...*dumps the rest of the lye in* Stir, stir...

    Some recent soapy experiments

Well, as the title suggests here are some pics of my most recent soap experiments. Whee! This one's 100% lard with adzuki bean for exfoliation. I remember reading around here that some people found these types of soaps great for facial skin. Another lard soap with adzuki bean, tomato...

    Oat milk soap--what's your method?

So I was planning on making oat milk soap but I was wondering how people prefer to make their oat milk? The oat milk that I drink I normally soak overnight/several hours but it seems like several soapers here prefer to blend their oats and water without soaking them, then straining the liquid...

    SoapQueen's Invigorating Shampoo bar recipe

I'm wondering if anyone here has any feedback regarding this recipe? Specifically, has anyone noticed this soap to be prone to DOS? I'm at my wits end with this recipe! I've made it many times, at first I had no problems but recent batches have been developing DOS. The first time it happened...

    I wonder what happened here?

I made this soap a couple of weeks ago and I'm puzzled about these markings that appeared shortly after I cut these soaps up. I'm thinking there a few factors at work here, mostly I blame the high stearic acid content of my soap (I used cocoa butter and palm oil), add to that goat milk, honey...

Is it ever too late to add Sodium Lactate?

I know that it should normally be added to the water phase when making soap, but I ask because I find myself unexpectedly having to hot process a batch of soap (of course, the largest batch of soap I've ever made :p). Since SL helps make the pour smoother, it would be great to add it still...

    What could these marks be?

Hmm, I don't think I have had marks like this pop up in my soap before. I'm tempted to blame the glycerin (mica was dispersed into it) I topped the soap off with. I used too much because the mica/glycerin wasn't staying were I wanted it to and it wound up dripping down the sides of the soap...

Funky white globs in my lye water?!

What the heck? O_o So I'm making a soap using the milk in oil method. Dissolving my lye in my water is surprisingly easy, last time I tried using only half my liquid to dissolve my lye in it took forever for the lye to finally dissolve. Anywho. All is going well until I stick my pitcher in...

Unsure of how to respond to a customer

Okay, I'm baffled. I've had a customer contact me telling me she's having trouble with the conditioner bar that she got from me, she admits that she didn't read the instructions very well. Immediately I'm puzzled, I don't make any "conditioner bars," but rather two different shampoo bars. I...

    Egg soap: tips or tricks?

Today I wanted to try making an egg and silk shampoo bar. I thought all was going well. I left my egg outside the fridge in advance so it could come to room temp. I tried to soap nice and cool too, but apparently 84 degrees was too much. When I tried tempering my soap with a small spoonful...

Zappy liquid leaking from mold, what gives?

Last week I decided to make a batch of soap using my Vertical Wood mold from Brambleberry. After three days I started dismantling my mold, thinking I could try unmolding my soap soon but then I noticed that my soap liners had a very thin coating of liquid on them, some if it even dripped out...

    DOS? Say it ain't so!

So...I've had this soap curing for over 6 weeks, I checked up on it today and I've noticed slightly discolored spots including one very distinct orange spot. I really thought it took longer for soaps to go rancid (unless stored in poor conditions, which mine weren't) so I'm rather puzzled...

    Finally delurking and saying hi!

Hello everyone, I've been lurking around for quite some time and thought it was about time I finally introduce myself. :) Figured it would be rude to start asking everyone questions before introductions, lol. Anyhow, I've been making soap over a year now and am enjoying myself immensely...
