    Buttermilk Soap - Second batch

    I use the typical size - diaper size. Combined with the amazing lather it really does a great job of cleaning your back along with the rest of your body. I love flour sack towels and use them all over the place - in the kitchen instead of those useless non-absorbent towels I used to use, in the...

    Buttermilk Soap - Second batch

    Nice buckets! I've been using the 2nd batch in the shower with cotton flour sack towel....and holy cow I am really loving it! It lathers up like crazy with the washcloth and I don't feel like the soap is drying me out at all. Great cleaning power, mild peppermint smell, and I'm going to use...

    Buttermilk Soap - Second batch

    Initially I thought my batch was no bueno. After 48 hours I washed my hands and it felt really, really drying and slimy. I thought "Oh no, I mismeasured the lye most likely......" and then after a week I tried it again and it feels ok. It definitely feels less gentle at 1% SF compared to 5% as...

    Buttermilk Soap - Second batch

    Yeah I like that knife. I use it normally for separately my pound cake from the form... I should have clarified a bit....I think I will revert to using the bowl for mixing and then transfer to the plastic pouring jug for pouring.....The pictures don't do it justic but these are about 12" tall...

    Purple sprouting broccoli

    I haven't tried either (only 2 batches under my belt) but I know that broccoli peels from stems stink like farts as well when I open the lid to my compost container even the next day.

    Different milks in cold process soap?

    I'm using leftover churn buttermilk from making a ton of homemade butter. I put them into ice cube trays and once frozen I put them into ziplock bags. I have way too much buttermilk and I don't know what else to do with it.

    Buttermilk Soap - Second batch

    My first batch I followed this recipe to the tee except I used 100% buttermilk. 44% OO 24% CO 32% PO 5% superfat This time around I figured I'd just try the trifecta at even amounts and add a "medium strength" amount of peppermint oil. 33% OO 16oz 33% CO 16oz 33% PO 16oz 1% superfat (I chose...

    Bread=>Butter=>Buttermilk=>Soap

    No worries at all! Heh heh that motto is certainly a big part of my life now. Definitely looking forward to learning a lot from all the experience of the members here. Thank you!

    Bread=>Butter=>Buttermilk=>Soap

    Thank you. Making my own (fill in the blank) is really starting to grow on me. I do strain the buttermilk several times during the butter making process so hopefully it does catch all the butter bits. I also tested the soap today and my hands do feel pretty nice after using it. Doesn't...

    Thank you! That's what I said but I got this message on my screen "This message is awaiting moderator approval, and is invisible to normal visitors." :smallshrug:

    Bread=>Butter=>Buttermilk=>Soap

    1. This is the introduction forum last I checked. 😆 2. I'm using butterMILK....not butter....the butter has (mostly) been extracted from it. I think that makes a difference. Glad to see another bread maker here! I am new to bread making too so this has been a tangential adventure to say the...

    Bread=>Butter=>Buttermilk=>Soap

    Thanks for the warm welcome. 😍 I was careful to not scorch the buttermilk and the final product smelled perfectly fine. I have to let it cure for at least a few days so that may change but I did search before making and it seems to me the potential smell goes away and that people's experiences...

    Bread=>Butter=>Buttermilk=>Soap

    I started making my own bread.....and then quickly added butter to the repertoire.....which resulted in a large amount of fresh buttermilk (uncultured)....and I couldn't bring myself to just toss it down the drain, especially after having paid $8.75 + delivery for a quart of heavy cream. I...
