Question about my 50/50 Lye Solution with Aloe Vera Juice

Sometimes aloe juice has other ingredients in very small amounts (citric acid, potassium sorbate, etc.) it could have something to do with that, as well.

    preservatives in a lotion bar?

mandolyn, I'm just curious if you're aware that Clorox now owns Burts Bees and that a lot of their formulas have changed... I also don't trust big companies to list all their ingredients. If there WAS an issue, you'd never hear about it because big companies like that (and read: Aubrey...

How do they do it?? (Awesome Etsy shop)

:D I didn't mean to come off real defensive, I did misread the original post though-- Sorry about that! Seriously, she's awesome... and I am in awe of some of her methods, she makes it look so easy! Have you seen this MP Artist as well? http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5531278...

^^^ Holy expensive! Sandalwood is outrageous... and has a pretty big environmental impact. Have you checked out sandalwood replacements? I think EOU has one.

    Question about Shampoo

I don't know about grating up soap... a lot of people don't do too well with the shampoo bars because of the pH (I sell both bars and liquid)... I only know of doing liquid using the LS method with KOH. There are a lot of bases out there, although I don't use any of them personally. I...

How do they do it?? (Awesome Etsy shop)

I know this thread is like a month old... but I need to say, Savor's soaps are not "just mp" they utilize a very high quality base-- she sells tons of soap because her soaps are amazing. She's also super nice and provides very high quality customer service.

    Scenting Curing Bars

You can't really add fragrance to bars that are already curing... however, sometimes the fragrance inside the bar tends to be stronger than the outside-- Sometimes I put a cotton ball with whatever essential oils I scented the batch with in the wooden drawers I use while I'm curing the bars...

    Salt Bar Question

You don't *have* to put it in the oven, no... Make sure that you cut the bars as soon as they're solid enough, though, so they don't crumble. You can put pretty much any mold in the oven-- Wood is fine, wood lined with plastic bags is fine, silicone is fine, HDPE is fine. If you're...

How much EO in Bath salts???

You need to be careful with essential oils because they are volatile--especially citrus oils... For bath salts, add NO MORE than 6-7 drops per bath... and do not use oils such as cinnamon or clove which will irritate nether regions. Most customers will fall prey to the "if one scoop is...

    preservative in bath salt

All of these overgeneralizatons about "preservatives are not good" are NOT helpful... This is going to come out harsh, but it needs to be said: 1) If you don't know if your product needs a preservative, you should not be selling it yet. Period. 2) Not all preservatives are bad...

    Palm Oil Alternatives

I would not substitute crisco (which is actually palm derived, no?)--but I won't use crisco in my soaps, at all. I'm a pretty big proponent of environmental issues and sustainability--and what I think is more important than NOT using palm is that you purchase from suppliers who utilize...

My soap turns brown in color

I made a batch of CPOP the other day with green tea as the water portion of my lye solution and that discolored pretty dark... is that the common effect of tea-lye? I've never used tea before, so I'm not sure...

    shampoo bar not working!

I have very, very straight hair that is pretty fine--it's to the middle of my back. I have very hard water, as well. I can't use my shampoo bars regularly as the buildup is just too much, even with the ACV rinse. I do make a shampoo though that is castile soap based with green tea, wheat...

Ratio of essential oil(s) to carrier oil(s)

Also... stay away from especially irritating oils for a bubble bath (like citrus) Check out this link http://www.soapmakingforum.com/essential-oil-chart.html it's really good, I use it all the time.

    ok, tea tree stinks

Not on a blending note... but whenever I use EO's I buy from WSP, I use latex or vinyl gloves--because I always find their bottles leaky... at least I can peel the gloves off and leave the room! =)
