Does this ingredient list make sense?

The reason people consume kefir is for its probiotic properties. Probiotic is defined as "usually dairy food or a dietary supplement containing live bacteria that replace or add to the beneficial bacteria normally present in the gastrointestinal tract." After reacting with lye and not being...

Two Part Question Regarding Measuring/Labeling Weight

If you are in the states, adding 'not less than' is not acceptable labeling per the FDA. You should just list the lowest amount as net wt. It's okay to have it weigh more, but not good if any bar weighs less.

    Aftershave alcohol

The ATF issues permits through the Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) http://www.ttb.gov/ for anyone that sells a product made with alcohol regardless of whether you use everclear, rum, vodka, or one of the SDA formulas. SDA contains chemicals that make it nonpotable and it cannot be made drinkable...

    Leaking Sugar Scrub Jars

I wouldn't try to 'can' the jars, you might warp or damage the rubber gasket. You can change your recipe so that there is no excess liquid by making an emulsified scrub or one using a cream soap base. hth

    Nb Lotions, Fragrances, Body Butter...

When you are really ready to sell, you will know the answers to all of the questions you are asking. Without any recipes and ingredients what are you planning to sell?

    Thoughts on BTMS-50

In most of my lotions I use emulsifying wax and stearic acid that are plant based and less expensive than btms50. BTMS50 is skin safe otherwise it would not be allowed in a leave on product. If you are uncomfortable using an ingredient and feel that you would have to justify its use, perhaps...

    Infusing calendula

You could also place the rbo/calendula mixture in an airtight container and place it in a sunny spot and shake it every now and then until you want to use it. No chance of burning.

    Perfume Oil?

In order to call a product a perfume it MUST contain 20-30% perfumed oil, be it EO/FO or a combination. If one of the ingredients you want to use in your perfume can only be used at a lower level, you have to blend it with other eos/fos to get to the minimum of 20%. Usage rates can vary...

    I Take It All Back!

Before making bath and body products I did a lot of research and read extensively. I learned one very basic rule: if water is used to make a product (like lotion, cream, liquid or cream soap, etc); the product needs a preservative. The nasties that grow cannot at first be seen, smelled, or...

Is a Loaf Soap Cutter Worth it?

I've had a Bud cutter for a little while now and I absolutely love it. I ordered from his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Buds-Woodshop/301600169944220

    Tallow

Thanks for answering my question. I didn't know CF used other oils in their tallow, so maybe others do also. ...something to think about.

    Tallow

I have a sincere question...why do you render your own? Columbus Foods sells tallow for only $.86pp and all the work has been done. There are other suppliers who don't require that you purchase 50 pounds at a time. Considering the cost of energy and your time to render it, what benefit do you...

50:50 lard:olive oil. The results are in.

Most of my soaps contain a high %age of lard. I usually melt the CO and then add the lard, being careful not to get it too hot. The oldest control bit of soap I have, nearly 2 years old, still does not smell piggy.

What would you do with this?

If van Gogh was a soaper this is what his soap would look like. Very pretty.
