I haven't used it yet, but can't wait! I did start using the sample bar, though.

    Dragon's Blood

I don't browse every day (or even every week), so watched thread notifications are a great tool to let people know there are updates to things they care about. You get an email and can click straight through. Wasn't asking for a personal reply, just a heads up here. Thanks.

    My First Salt Bars

Totally agree. I used pink salt in a batch and ended up with actual lacerations on my tummy.

Pine Tar: HP vs. CP. WOW!

I use a high percentage of lard in mine and IMHO, that makes it very easy to work with in CP.

    Getting ready for Salt Bars

Don't use the pink salt from Costco as is without grinding it further. Maybe I'm just super sensitive, but my salt bars made with that shredded my skin. It's like showering with broken glass. Use fine sea salt or pulverize pink into a powder.

    Shampoo bar base?

My favorite shampoo bars are made by Ethique. (Ethiquebeauty.com or on Amazon) They work really well and have excellent ingredients.

    Lard V no Lard

Lard I made my first two batches of CP soap yesterday, both using lard, and I have to say I smelled nothing porky at all. I melted down my oils over a double boiler. Perhaps that helped?

    Lard from WalMart

Thanks, I know it's an old thread, but it ranks high when you search for info about soap-making and lard, so thought I'd provide some info for future reference.

    Lard from WalMart

You won't find lard or tallow at the Indian grocery. You'll find lots of soybean, "olive" oil, sunflower and gorgeous golden jars of ghee. My local Indian grocery has incredible prices, both on oils and produce. Definitely worth a trip if you have an Indian community nearby! Plus, ghee is just...
