    deodorant soap?

If you are going to use Witch Hazel in the soap be very careful. It will volcano....yea, I've done it. That being said, I didn't think it added much to the soap. Add a little clay to the soap to help with the scrubbing action. Body odor comes from bacteria on the skin....wash it off well...

how to make a sugar soap bar

So, if I read this right... you took 8 oz. of soap added 4 oz. of additional oil plus the sugar????? It's not going to work. YOu have added 50% more oil to the batch that is not saponified. That alone will make slop. If you're aiming for a sugar scrub in a jar it would work..but as a bar, nope.

    Size of batch...

10% lye discount with Sesame oil is just asking to get DOS. I would just sub the same amount of olive oil. Sesame has such a short shelf-life that I never use it in soap.

    yard sales/soap selling?

She knew exactly what she was paying for and just waited until your back was turned and left. I wouldn't even attempt to sell at a yard sale or a Flea Market either, for that matter. Yard sales are for cheap bargains and you'll be hard pressed to make any decent money selling soap. My friend...

    Natural scent?

If you have a Health Food store around they have palm oil that is marketed as Margarine. I believe it is the "Spectrum" brand in about a 2# tub.

    shampoo bar?

You can't adjust CP soap back to neutral. The oils will come out of suspension and all you'll be left with is a slimey, oily mess. How are you checking the pH level? pH strips are notorious for being wrong on soap. Normal soap should have a pH of about 9 to 10.5. The way to deal with a high...

    Lard Soapers I need input

Lard soaps are notoriously sloooooow to trace, but are usually pretty hard right out of the mold. I unmold mine at about 18 hours or so. How much water are you using, and what % lye discount?

Beneficial herb properties: Do they survive saponification?

IMHO I do believe that "some" of the benefits survive the lye monster, the trick is to use heavily infused oils along with the EO if possible. I did an experiment using the same basic soap formula & EO's. One batch had infused oils, the other not. I then sent blind samples to my...

How long have you been soaping?

I made my first batch on April 7 1999. Started my Biz in May of 2000. I started to make soap out of self-defense. Just about every single commercial soap made me itch and break out in hives. So, one day I came across a Readers Digest book on "Back to Basics".I'm thinking...hmmmm I can cook, I...

    Breast Milk Soap

has anyone ever heard of "biohazard". If somebody was going to make it up for themselves or a very special friend, maybe. But, to sell you are looking at all kinds of illegalities.

Batch gone wrong - what should I do with it? PIC

First off Safflower and Grapeseed oil have different SAP values. It takes more lye for the safflower. Did you run this new formula thru a SAP calculator to check it first? Did you use coconut cream or coconut milk? Coconut Cream has sugar added to it, so it can cause overheating and...

    how to tell if stainless

In my experience most all copper bottomed pans ARE stainless. I've never seen an aluminum pan with a copper bottom. Go ahead and test it if you've got nothing to lose. Just mix up a little lye in water and dump it in. If it doesn't cause a reaction to the pan you're good to go. Aluminum...
