Using Plastic bucket to make soap

I normally wash my pots in my tub anyways. Haha. I was just concerned about the color of the bucket. I'm not a very chemistry oriented person, so I was worrying about the color of the bucket being bad for the soap. Buckets are so much cheaper though. :p

Using Plastic bucket to make soap

I want to use a plastic bucket for a larger batch of soap than my current pot can hold. I don't want to buy another pot, larger pots are expensive. I have a clean, brand new home depot orange 5 gallon bucket.. Would the orange color leave paint residue in my soap in reaction to the lye?

Salt Bar - Powder vs. Fine vs. Coarse?

Thank you, everyone! I'll stay away from dead sea salt. I will post pictures when I make them sometime this week. :)

Salt Bar - Powder vs. Fine vs. Coarse?

I want to make a salt bar, but I would like advice! Recipe: 90% CO 76 10% Castor Oil 20% Superfat Aloe vera juice instead of water dead sea salt that I found for cheap. 50%-100%? tiny bit of activated charcoal for grey color. keep it simple. I have not decided on EO, but I may go...

The beginners' guide to Castile vs. Bastile craft soap

Makes sense. haha. I only ask because I've come across bars of soap online that market as Bastille Soap.

The beginners' guide to Castile vs. Bastile craft soap

For those of you that sell soap, How is the name "Bastille Soap" generally received by your customers? I was thinking about this the other day.. I'm sure some people would just think it refers to a certain type of soap (which would, of course, be correct). But then there would be those that ask...

    Lip Balm Help

I had some beeswax pastilles laying around that I wanted to put to good use. I know a lot of people use the hard butters for balms but I figured I'd mess around with what I already had on hand. Ingredients: 1 oz. beeswax pastilles 1 oz. olive oil 2 oz. coconut oil I used enough Peppermint...

Why is Dr Bronner Baby Mild so soft

A random question, now that you are all on the subject of Dr. Bronner's.. I noticed that some of their soaps are marketed as Hemp "pure castille, etc.". When I've looked at the ingredients, it seems that Hemp is the oil that is used the least in those soaps, even less than some of the other...

Stickiness in the center of the bar

My apologies, I meant to ask more specifically if the coffee grounds are enough to remove the garlic/onion scent from the hands or if you also had to add fragrance for that.

Stickiness in the center of the bar

Do you add fragrance to your coffee ground soap? Or do the coffee grounds alone do the job?

Stickiness in the center of the bar

Thank you, Earlene! I have used spent coffee grinds twice so far. The first recipe came out more coarse than expected but it wasn't too bad for me. I think it actually works well as a hand bar for grimy activities. This would be about a 2 week lather test. I think it will get better with a...

    Dog soap

Thank you for the link, Arimara. This is a very new field for me, whether it be the actual soap or the chemistry behind it. My desire is to learn, so I am not afraid to sound silly asking some of these questions. I appreciate the help. I will read the info! :)

Stickiness in the center of the bar

Thank you. :) Good coffee is definitely pricey, but smells wonderful. I don't drink too much coffee, but I am lucky that my girlfriend does. I've been saving the used coffee grounds and drying them out. I don't know if it makes a difference with them being dry or not.

    Dog soap

You are right about research! That is why I am asking here, too. :) I read that a little citric acid may lower the overall ph of the soap but I haven't found any results posted yet. I found one website that swore that using apple cider vinegar, at trace I believe, would lower the ph their...

Stickiness in the center of the bar

Arimara, this is the result I got from your recipe. The only adjustment I made was that I added used coffee grounds for exfoliation and Lavender EO. I now feel that was a mistake because there is a clear layer of soap that developed over certain parts of the bar. I wonder if used vs. fresh...

Stickiness in the center of the bar

Susie, this is result I got using your recipe! The only adjustment I made was adding activated charcoal to the top portion of the batter. I made this unscented. Edit:I just realized that picture 2 is upside down..

    Dog soap

I did read your post, which I was asking you because you seemed to have more knowledge on the matter. I referenced "reading", not hearing, about lavender and certain essential oils(peppermint, eucalyptus) because I am unsure. I have read conflicting arguments on whether EOs are safe for dogs. I...
