    My other crafty schtuff

When I do markets, I take more than soapy things. I made a name for myself a couple Christmas' ago for gnomes and get invitations to some markets just because of them.

    Mx5inpenn's Soapy Mis/Adventures 2022

Aurora - was to be my challenge club splash swirl entry, but I entered in the bonus category instead. Smell the Rainbow - remake of one of my best sellers. This was my 1st splash swirl attempt and looks more like a regular hanger swirl. Pomander - this was made last month, for the laminar...

    Batch 2 - remake

This is batch #2 for the day, both remakes, but I'm hoping to be happier with the cut of this one. Now I'm off to masterbatch more lye so I can maybe get another remake taken care of. I'm planning to dedicate tomorrow to challenge soaps!

    Planer/beveler

Ive run across a planer and beveler combo that does both at the same time. Wondering if anyone here has one and what you think.  Multitrim pro

    Diving back in

After a long soap hiatus, I've been busy the last couple weeks. These aren't cleaned up yet, but if I don't take pics when I cut, I usually forget. English Pear Vanilla Bean Love Spell Teakwood and Mahogany

    Reintroducing myself

Hello all! I've been a member here for a long time, but have been AWOL for a few years. I had some big changes happening and just didn't have time for the forum or much soap making. I've been missing it for a long time and with my stash of soaps dwindling (finally!) I decided I need to make time...

    Vinegar help!

I want to experiment with vinegar in the near future. I masterbatch lye as a 50% solution. Can I neutralize vinegar ahead of time and store it easily for use much later? Has anyone stored it for 3-6 months or more? I'm wondering because the acidity is what keeps vinegar "good" so I don't want it...

Finally back (and a few pics)

Its been a rough few months in my neck of the woods, but hopefully I'm at a point now where I can participate again! I've spent some time on soapy stuff, even tho I haven't been here. I've tested all of my regular recipes with dual lye. The youngest is at 8 weeks now and I must say I am really...

    Take care of yourself!

I am putting this out there because I've had quite the scare this week. I went home from work on Tuesday with severe stomach cramps, light headed, dizzy, hot flashes, vomiting. To be honest, I had the same symptoms a few weeks earlier. The only thing that kept me from believing it to be the flu...

    Ash and oils and/or process

I never got ash until this past fall. Now I seem to get it on every batch. This morning I went back through all the batches I've made starting in August 2017 and comparing. It seems it almost coincides with another change I made. I started adding avocado oil to every batch in August. The 1# test...

    Cost of goods

I've been working on reducing my cost per bar in anticipation of selling in the next year. My cost of materials has been $1.30-1.50 per bar as a hobbyist picking oils up at the grocery store. Pricing things in larger quantities from suppliers, I've got that down to about $.75-.95 with 7# bottles...

    Whirlwind technique

I keep seeing variations of the "whirlwind technique" on pintrest but haven't been able to track down any videos or tutorials. Anyone have suggestions for how this was done?

I'm gonna be in soooo much trouble!

I have 2 orders arriving tomorrow, one for butters and fo and the other NG fo. I have an order placed with Micas and more. And I just bought a tall and skinny on destash. I still need to reorder a couple fo from NS and those new micas are calling my name. Hubby may kill me this month :-)

    The lye guy

I know many people order from him. Is it really cost effective for anyone not buying a lot? It looks like minimum shipping is $13. That really ups the cost and I could buy up to 4# locally for a better price. I typically Mb a couple pounds at a time.

    Lye monster and avocado

So at work today my mind was wandering and I of course was thinking about soap. The lye eats whatever oils it wants. What about when using something like avocado oil that has a higher percentage of unsaponifiables? I noticed a big difference in my soaps using avocado at 15% in place of olive...

    NS green vibrance mica

A while back I ordered the sample pack of vibrance micas. I have been leary about using the green since I've seen a number of people mention it morphed. Their website shows a nice green for court so I assume it doesn't always morph. What does it change to? Anyone know any specific circumstances...
