    Question about Colloidal Oatmeal:

Thanks for the suggestion. I used Aveno Colloidal Oatmeal so no scratchy feeling. Here is the thread on how it went: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=38570 I haven't used it yet, so I can't say about how it feels but it smells fabulous. C

Looking for feedback on my recipe:

Since there is salt in it, I pulled it from the mold and cut it. This is my first 2 color soap attempt. Sent from my iPad using Soap Making

Looking for feedback on my recipe:

Thanks! It wasn't a total loss, it smells fabulous and in the worst case I would put it under the seat of my car as a freshener. I learned a lot! We'll see how it turns out. :) C

Looking for feedback on my recipe:

Obsidian, thank you for your suggestions. I upped the coconut oil because I was adding the salt. I have two salt bars and found that they make my skin so soft! One of my batches I added pink Himalayan salt and that bar is fantastic! I know salt is a suds killer so everything I've read says...

Looking for feedback on my recipe:

OK, I made this "soap." Why the quotes? Because, I totally screwed this up. On the plus side, my house smells fantastic! Here's what happened. I measured out my lye, had it cooling in the sink, measured out my oils and my colors and got everyone in my mixing cup. I'm mixing and mixing...

    Psoriasis Shampoo Bar?

Thanks for the feedback, Saswede! This is for my hubby. The only shampoo he's been able to use that won't aggravate his scalp is Philosophy. I like the idea of using stuff for a sensitive skin and lowering the superfat makes sense. C

Looking for feedback on my recipe:

Since I'm still pretty new at soaping, I was hoping to get some feedback before trying this recipe I've put together. I'm looking for a morning shower soap that is very moisturizing/ conditioning since our winters here in Wisconsin are very drying! Here is the recipe I've put together so far...

    Question about Colloidal Oatmeal:

Has anyone tried pre-mixing the oatmeal with some glycerin or a bit of olive oil before adding it to the soap mix? I'm making this soap today and thinking of trying it. I am also going to post this recipe in the recipe forum to get feedback (I hope that's ok with the board rules.) I'm...

    Psoriasis Shampoo Bar?

Does anyone have a recipe for a shampoo bar that will not aggravate psoriasis? If it actually had some healing properties that would be fantastic! Thanks, C

    Castile soaps

They say this on the savon de marseille web site: "It takes our Maitre de Savon (soapmaster) two weeks to make Savon de Marseille. The delicate mixture of olive oil, alkaline ash from sea plants and Mediterranean Sea salted water are heated for ten days in antique cauldrons, then poured into...

    Castile soaps

They say that castille soaps need to cure for a year or even two, would the bastille soap need the same cure time? Also, Savon de Marseille says they make their soaps with salt water, would adding salt to the soap make it more similar? C

    Castile soaps

So, I kept hearing everyone talking about how utterly fabulous this Savon de Marseille soap is so I bought a bar to see what all the fuss is about. I love the soap but can't stand the smell. Hubby does not seem to care about that sort of thing so I put the bar in the shower to see if he would...

    Advice creating a blend:

I was thinking that it needed something to add roots to the smell if that makes sense. Bass note sounds like the perfect thing. I don't have any patchouli. I know they have it at our local co-op so I'll go sniff it tomorrow. C

    Advice creating a blend:

Update: Today I got in my oak moss! This has now become my very favorite smell! So I mixed up a blend of oak moss and lavender but it smelled too bright, I tried adding spruce to the mix and it helped so I decided that to help the lavender come out a bit more I would add just one drop of...

    Question about Colloidal Oatmeal:

Hi, I'm making a recipe and would like to add colloidal oatmeal. Should I add a percentage of the oils like I would salt? Is there anything I should cut back on or add if I'm using colloidal oatmeal? thanks, C

    Salt bars

Maybe you can pick up a bar of salt soap and see if it is something you enjoy? I made my first batch a week ago and it was a lot of fun. There are several types of salts and there are special things you have to do to your recipe to make them work so make sure you do your research if you do...

    Confusing numbers

I plugged a recipe into soapcalc and then plugged the same recipe into brambleberry's soap app and they gave me different lye and water numbers. Which one should I trust? recipe: 12 oz coconut oil 1.6 oz castor oil 1.6 oz shea butter 0.8 oz olive oil 20% superfatting soapcalc...

    Question about colorants:

If I color my CP soap with yellow clay and red mica, will I get orange soap or will I get yellow with red flecks in it? I'm trying to get tomato red/orangy color. Thanks for any help or suggestions! Catherine

    Advice creating a blend:

Moody Glenn, too bad I'm doing this a bit too late for the Simon and Garfunkel challenge, that would be awesome! I'm a newbie soapmaker and I started this to make good use of the herbs coming out of my garden. Funny thing, I've got all of those herbs in abundance right now! Thank you for the...
