    Question about using soapcalc.

I'm new to using soapcalc; I've read thru all the info on how to use the sight, but I was wondering, I thought the soapcalc is supposed to tell me how much lye to use? Am I missing something?

    WHY is it crumbling???

I got the recipe off a website called 'soap center.' Yes, 12 hours. When a batch doesnt trace after 15 min, I let it sit, and re-stir periodically until it traces. And I would love some recipes!

    WHY is it crumbling???

12 hours to trace, which surprised me. I used a hand-held single beater, which usually works pretty well.

CP soapers - tell me what you think

Artisan, What is a "chopping mat?" Either we don't have that here in the U.S, or maybe we call it something different. But I love your pictures; pics are worth 1000 words as they say.

    WHY is it crumbling???

It was a small batch: 5 oz CO, 5 oz PO, and 9 oz OO, with 7 oz H2o, & 2 oz Lye. I didn't use soap calc. It took 12 hours to trace, and I cut the bars 24 hours after pouring into the mold.

    WHY is it crumbling???

ARG! So frustrating! I finally got a FO that isnt seizing my soap or turning it brown, I got the color right, it's a beautiful soap, but when I go to cut it, it is crumbling apart. I just used a basic recipe of CO, PO, and OO. Any suggestions would be appreciated before I give up soap...

    Cutting Soap

After experimenting with an assortment of knives, cheese cutters, string, and wire over the years, I bought a large 12" mason's grout/puddy knife. So far, so good.

    does lye really get old?

Does older lye really not work as well after it's been on the shelf awhile? I've got some that is dated 10 years ago; it still reacts and makes soap, but I'm wondering if I'd have less problems with fresher stuff. I hate to throw it out if I don't need to.

    Recycle soap

Yeah; you can get some really cool effects that way. Its a great way to not have to waste your mis-haps.
