    White Spots

Definitely not soda ash, it is throughout the bars not just on top and was there when I cut. Now that I've done a bit more searching I'm thinking it's stearic acid. Will try to get a pic.

    White Spots

Hi All, I'm dealing with a significant number of white spots all over the cut bars of my two latest batches of soap. I've had this happen before when I've accidentally gone a bit lye-heavy, however this time they all pass the zap test. Would you still think this is due to too much lye even...

Best oils for an acne fighting soap?

Aesthetician here. As much as I love creating soaps, I never suggest that people use them on their face. Yes, some can handle it, but many many cannot. The pH of soap is too high for fragile facial skin, especially skin with acne, rosacea, etc. So many "acne soap" formulas contain very drying...

    Bergamot & Patchouli

Oh thank you! I really like this and haven't seen it before. I think I'm going to try a 3% usage rate with 1 part patchouli to 3 parts bergamot and play around with it from there.

    Bergamot & Patchouli

I'm working on perfecting a cold process soap with bergamot and patchouli EO. I've made this a few times, and while I like it, it is overwhelmingly patchouli and little to no bergamot. The total wt. of my oils is 40 oz. With EO at 0.5 oz/lb soap, this is approximately 1.25 oz EO/batch - 0.25...

    Purchasing Base Oils

That's pretty good, about 13 cents/ounce. Unfortunately for me, no Costco close enough that it would be worth it :(

    Purchasing Base Oils

Specifically olive oil. I use a lot of olive oil in my soaps and have been purchasing it at Walmart for approximately 18.8 cents/oz. I'm looking to purchase in larger quantities and checked out Soaper's Choice. I calculated their olive oil pomace to be approximately 13 cents/oz. Good deal...

    No scent to finished soap

Some scent is coming through when it is wet, but very light. I actually kind of like it, but if you're looking for a strong scent this is one is not for you. I'll have to keep playing with it. Thanks for the tip!

    No scent to finished soap

I would like to play around with FO, but for now I've been giving it away to family and friends and all seem to prefer EO. (Well, they think they prefer EO and seem to think that FO is "bad." Not sure how to convince them otherwise so that I can play with more scents :).) I'm not selling right...

    No scent to finished soap

I think I'm going to try it again and may use your percentages. Also, now that I'm looking at my recipe, I'm wondering if I was supposed to use 0.3 oz bergamot and 0.64 oz patchouli. I'm thinking I may have gotten my amounts reversed.

    No scent to finished soap

So my first post on this forum was about my overuse of EO. Now I think I have the opposite problem  I just finished curing a patchouli + bergamot EO CP soap. 32 oz total oils, 0.3 oz patchouli and 0.64 oz bergamot. This works out to a little under 3% (2.9-somthing %.) After a 6-week...

    Help with EO blend

Thank you both! I'm planning in getting another batch going this evening, I'll be sure to read through these links today.

    Help with EO blend

Hello! New here and trying to get a feel for the forum. I'm pretty new to CP soapmaking and have a couple EO questions. I made a batch of cinnamon-sweet orange soap (30 oz total oils) and used 0.5 oz cinnamon leaf EO and 1.5 oz sweet orange EO. The result was incredible, but in my reading...
