    Honey disaster in CP

I always design my recipes to be as simple as possible, in the technical sense. No insulating or cooling in the fridge or freezer, just leaving it on the counter as soon as I’m done with the swirls. I work with essential oils, which are partially lost in too high temperatures (some may even...

    Honey disaster in CP

Hello everyone, I am back with a full report! The spots on the soap I initially posted here still ooze when I open them up. It does indeed look like caramel. I tested the pH of the oozing liquid, alone as well as diluted in water, and they both yield 10, so at least they aren't dangerous. I...

    Honey disaster in CP

Little update in case someone ever encounters the same issue - I bought a new honey (acacia). It is also raw, but it is very fresh so still entirely liquid. I followed one of the methods above, adding a touch of warm water to dissolve the honey, then I added it at trace. It gave me a...

    Honey disaster in CP

Hi, thanks for your message. I usually soap slightly higher than room temperature, so I use frozen liquids to add my lye to. I've never had anything burn. I also use the same amount of honey as you. P.S. your picture fits the thread very well!

    Honey disaster in CP

I used raw honey indeed. The mystery about it is that I used the exact same one in my very first honey soap, and none of this happened! I will try different honeys from now on 😄

    CP soap gained weight!

My soaps are between 135 - 140g so the change is small indeed. I was just wondering when the moment will come when I will be able to safely package them in kraft paper. I was thinking that it would be as soon as the soaps stop losing weight, but I didn't think they could gain some 😄

    CP soap gained weight!

Hi, it is a very basic soap. No additives, no fragrance, no salts. That's why I find the situation strange. I got this recipe from a book and made it a few times already, but never weighed it. The soap itself is great, but the weight gain got me curious. It has 50% olive oil, 22% coconut oil...

    Honey disaster in CP

Hi, thanks a lot for the kind message. I haven't had much trouble with preventing gel in the past, but this one had a plan on its own apparently! I do prefer this one gelled so I will not try to stop it next time. I really like the color of your soap as well, it reminds me of honey too. I will...

    CP soap gained weight!

Hi guys, I know that a common method to check whether a CP soap is done curing is by weighing it - once it stops losing weight, aka the water stops evaporating, you're good to go. Now, I'm having a pretty unusual issue, at least I haven't heard of it before. My soap was made with 1.1 : 1...

    Honey disaster in CP

Thank you very much (also for the welcome!), I actually don't mind the way it looks. The disaster part was about the fact that I cannot seem to get soaps with honey right. Either they morph into strange colors, or the honey scorches, or it doesn't dissolve 😅 it's an adventure on its own...

    Honey disaster in CP

Hello everyone. Before I get to the big question, I would like to share some of my experiences regarding honey in CP with you. I apologize in advance for the long post but I am hopeless. My first honey CP soap was a recipe from a book whose author gels all her soaps and soaps in high...
