    you can make soap very cheap if you don't get carried away with all the coloring, fancy smelling scents, molds, exotic oils.. the soap we made cost pennies as used bacon grease save from the bacon, we had the castor oil and lye for yrs, we did buy the coconut oil, but it really wasn't necessary...

    PH of about 8

    I made large 40 bars (man size) of soap on the 3rd of Feb and the PH is 8, it smells good, like soap and has lots of bubbles, It was CP, can I use it or should I wait the 4-6 weeks thanks

    lard is from a hog and tallow is from beef.

    I didn't use just the buttery spread, I also used other fats and oils for a total of 80 ounces. I just took off the towel to get a quick smell and it's solid and smells like soap.

    no way to identify oils

    my oils are pretty much smelling like kerosene now so I'm just going to use them in another way.. I just want to make a few bars of soap to kill some winter days, just me and my wife here, my kids and GKs wouldn't try homemade soap and my GGKs don't put down their smart phones long enough to wash.

    I just checked them all, they're rancid, back to plan one , make ethanol someday or throw it on brush piles.

    suppose we had gallons of different oils stored and had no idea which oil was in them corn, veg, olive, peanut ect, is there a formula for a mixture or just pick one and go with it?? thanks.

    is there anyplace on the forum explaining what all the abbreviations mean?? CP, HP ect.thanks I know what those two mean but am running into others as I read back posts.
