I couldnt live without my frother! I got it for .29 cents at a thrift store. I use it constantly. That lil sucker has some kick to it!

    palm oil substitute

Im a tallow and lard fanatic. I dont even make soap without one or both anymore. Youll love them! Just so you know lard takes a while to trace, I knew that when I made my first batch but I didnt think itd take that long. My tallow batches take less than 5 mins.

Question for experienced HP and Goat milk soap makers!

Re: Goats milk I did this last nite and my daughter and DH both asked if I was baking muffins, it was the soap! I didnt have a scent in it either. I almost freaked the first time it skipped thru stages, I bet its wonderful!

    Elderberry flowers

I know the beautiful color from the berries turns this ugly dark gray in CP. Wait am i even talking about the same plant? I know I eat toast with homemade elderberry jelly almost every morn. Sorry if Im waaaaay off.

High PH in a goof'd batch

I could be wrong but I dont think the cocoa in that amount of oil would cause that unless its a sugar thing and it overheated. Did you double check your recipe on Soapcalc? It sounds like it overheated, Id rebatch it if you think it smells good! If that doesnt work then toss it. Good luck...

    False Trace??

Sometimes i get really soft soap when I do a high lard content and dont gel. It takes almost triple the amount of time until I can cut compared to a non lard & OO recipe that I do gel.

    Scale Trouble!

Were you trying to do a water discount to trace quicker since its Olive Oil? Thats a REALLY big batch if your starting out, what was your recipe? It could potentially be lye heavy.

New to Soaping / Need Specific Advice

I 100% about watching out for DOS with Canola or Soy oils. Its such a bummer making beautiful soaps and a few months later theyre rancid and no good. SoapCalc is one tool that will be most useful to you. I always use roughly 5-7%castor and 15-25% coconut you have to see what you like. Beef...

    my soap didnt turn out....

Recipe looks ok. It could actually be a few things. Youve got a high olive oil content which takes months to be great IMO. Secondly if it didnt gel it does stay almost tacky. I leave mine in the molds for 48 hours then take it out only if its dried more. I use 7% castor all the time its nice in...

    CP & Syndet Shampoo Bars

I always add 1 tempered egg yolk PPO and HP them they work better for me like that. My hair is about 2 inches past my elbows and my CP poo bars detangle my hair better than anything else. I still use a tiny bit of conditioner, Ive always wanted to do a beer shampoo bar. However I alternate poo...

    Hello all

Welcome! Those are some of the same reasons I started. You are very lucky to live next door to a soap shoppe! I dont even know if there is one within 45 mins and I live in a tourist trap known for candle shops and shopping outlets. Guess they forgot the soap store. :(
