This week's distraction - Not Soap!

Ack! Sorry they're so big! I thought I'd made them smaller. Oops! LOL

This week's distraction - Not Soap!

I just wanted to share a couple of pics of what's keeping me from soaping this week, mainly because I'm so happy with how today's creation turned out. My kids' birthdays are coming up, and I'm busy making fondant/gum paste decorations for their cakes. My soon-to-be 10 y.o. daughter requested a...

    Shelving for drying soap

I use a metal kitchen rack for curing, and I just use parchment or wax paper. I've never had a problem. In fact, I usually just sit the cut soap back on the paper I used to line the mold, since I have never been able to reuse mine like some people can.

    Egg White Bath Bomb Frosting?

Yep. I plan on using the whisk attachment on my KitchenAid. Honestly, it was pure laziness that made me use whisk on the stick blender. I didn't feel like dragging the giant mixer out and cleaning it afterwards. Serves me right!

    Egg White Bath Bomb Frosting?

Well, I made the icing last night, and it was a flop (literally). Too thin to hold its shape. I'm going to give it another whirl tomorrow and use the standing mixer instead of the stick blender. I should've done that in the first place. My stick blender's just not tough enough to mix anything...

Bath Bombs - No Citric Acid?

You know - I hadn't thought of that, but it's a great idea, especially for my daughter. She's a sucker of fairies. Some "pixie dust" would be right up her alley. Thanks!

    Egg White Bath Bomb Frosting?

I know I've seen a post somewhere on the forum about using a gingerbread frosting recipe that called for actual egg whites for the frosting on bath bomb cupcakes. I'm curious - has anyone tried this? Results? I have a backyard flock of chickens and am usually overrun with eggs, and since I'm...

Bath Bombs - No Citric Acid?

I should say that I hesitated to try these again because I am really trying to buy locally whenever possible, and until yesterday, the cheapest I could find citric acid was $17.95/lb. Ack! I don't THINK so!

Bath Bombs - No Citric Acid?

Well, I happened to find citric acid locally for $3.95/lb. at a local brewery supply store, so it looks like I'll practice the bath bombs again and then let Thing 1 give it a whirl. I've never had a lot of luck with them myself. I'm pretty sure it's the humidity. But I don't mind her playing...

    Olive Oil Question

I can buy grade A olive oil locally as cheap as I can get it from Columbus Foods after shipping, so I almost always do that. I have used pomace in the past, though, and it always works very well for me. In fact, I prefer it to EVOO because it's not so green.

    Olive Oil Question

I wouldn't bother paying extra for the extra virgin. Cheap olive oil works beautifully in soap. In fact, pomace oil is the cheapest grade olive oil you can buy, so there you go.

Bath Bombs - No Citric Acid?

Do you skip the citric acid, as well? I've never tried making them outside of the typical citric acid, baking soda, witch hazel combo. I was just looking at a recipe that called for baking soda, witch hazel, and lemon juice (I guess as a citric acid substitute?), but I'm not sure how that'd work.

Bath Bombs - No Citric Acid?

Anyone have a good recipe for bath bombs without citric acid? My sweet little daughter wants to make some, but living in south Louisiana, I have never had much luck with them because of the humidity. She's got her heart set on it, but I don't want to buy citric acid just for her experiment!
