How does Water:Lye ratio affect tracing?

🤦‍♂️ Sometimes nothing makes sense. I’ll just have to try. Thank for the input.

How does Water:Lye ratio affect tracing?

HAAAA I love when the answer is YES and NO!! LOL Thank you so much. I guess the only way to find out if this is the issue is going back to the old ratio to test. About the coconut oil on the soap, no it doesn’t make our skin feel dry. I posted this recipe before and someone said that the...

How does Water:Lye ratio affect tracing?

We were using 1.3000:1 Water:Lye ration. Since we changed to 1.7000:1 it’s been tracing much faster. Could that be it? BEFORE: NOW:

Do EOs behave differently when combined with other EOs

Who doesn’t love a good soap on a stick? 😒 Been getting those often lately and have no idea why. I know this usually happens with some essential oils. There’s an amazing post with a list of essential oils that speed up tracing. Learned my lesson the hard way and now I avoid those for soaps...

    Mosaic soap after a disaster

Tks! Do you know if it’s ok to let it dry for a few weeks chopped up or is it going to be an issue if it gets too hard?

Is it wrong to calculate Lye like this?

I feel like such a pro now that I know that what I’ve done had a name. Masterbathcing sounds like a pro move. Thank you so much, I’ll research more about it. But why’s is it that you don’t do?

    Mosaic soap after a disaster

I just made some soap on a stick. How long do I have to wait to chop the soap into small pieces and make some mosaic soap? Also, what is the longest I can wait to that? I imagine that if I take too long it will get too hard and it might make it difficult to cut, right? Or does it soften up...

Is it wrong to calculate Lye like this?

Thank you! Sometimes we make 4/5 different types of soap and it’s quite a pain in the neck to measure everything separate for each recipe. I suspect the same, but that means the there was more lye per oz of solution than expected because the solution got a little more concentrated than...

Is it wrong to calculate Lye like this?

I was going to make 3 different kind of soap, all CP just different scents and colors so I calculated the total amount of fats, total of water and total of lye. I melted all the fats for the 3 soaps together. Combined the total lye with the total water which was: Water: 21.74oz Lye:12.79oz...

    My soap is dry/crumbly

Found this post today when looking for info about Australian Sandalwood EO. I tried it yesterday twice, the first time we were able to put it in the mold but the second time we got soap on a stick. Wondering if we used the same “Australian Sandalwood“ 😒

Possible issues from under-mixing the batter?

Thank you all so much for sharing your knowledge. I actually have never seen the batter separating and prefer to keep it like that. We do mix it enough so that it doesn’t separate apparently, so I definitely feel more comfortable now to make some designs. Tks again 🙏

Possible issues from under-mixing the batter?

What are the possible issues I could face if my batter isn’t well mixed? What can go wrong? I really don’t want to undermix for the sake of swirls. Some of the designs we like to make on our CP soaps require the batter to be as liquid as possible, mostly the ones I pointed on the picture. To...

    Another DOS post

I sure did learned A LOT with 1 post. I’m beyond grateful to everyone that replied. Trying not to kick myself too much because there are so many simple things I could have been doing already. Once again thank you for all the knowledge shared! This Forum is one of the best things I could have...

We try to soap very cool also, usually below 90/95. We don’t use fragrances and some EO are too dramatic with high temps lol - My feeling is that if we soap at high temp we feel the scent almost disappears. Does it make sense?

    Another DOS post

South Florida is definitely challenging at times for soaps. Lol We were not using distilled water but clearly that is a must. A lot of people have told us that. We were using 38% at first and one of the things I didn’t like was how much smaller the final bars became after curing, and some times...
